Coolest Projects Global is the world’s leading technology showcase for young people. It’s an opportunity for your coders to share their tech creations with the world in the Coolest Projects online gallery.

Registration is open! All levels, programme languages, and stages of projects are welcome. The Coolest Projects team has released a collection of new resources to support educators and participants for this year’s global showcase.

Our mentor plan will help you support young people through their Coolest Projects journey.

This plan will cover all the important stages, from idea generation to project registration. At each step, we share the skills that coders will develop and tips to make sure they are all set to share their creations at Coolest Projects Global

Session plans

We have session plans to help you lead a Code Club session on creating something for Coolest Projects.

The session plans will support you to tell your young people all about Coolest Projects, as well as how to design, debug, and register a project. Remember: Young people can enter any tech project they like, including a very simple Scratch project.

Coolest Projects Global is a celebration, which is why we make sure every participant is celebrated!

Every participant is eligible to receive digital or physical swag, and everyone will get feedback on their projects from our awesome judges. There are also prizes for the judges’ favourite projects, which will be announced at the online celebration in June.

If you need some help to get your coders started, why not check out our project library? We’ve got over 200 projects, for all levels of experience and covering a wide range of topics. Our projects have even been translated into over 28 languages.

We have projects organised into paths to help coders develop their skills, knowledge, and independence as they create cool projects.

Cool and creative, meet Azmat the superhero from Kashmir

Azmat (16) is inspiring her peers to get involved in coding! Vasu, Programme Coordinator for Code Club India, met with Azmat virtually to learn about her coding journey; her participation in Coolest Projects; and how, as she gets older, computing features in her life.

Meet Azmat!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Azmat, I am 16 years old and I live in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, in India. I have been going to the Pi Jam Code Club which is held in my local school for 1.5 years.

What skills have you gained from attending Code Club?

All our [Code Club] sessions start with a problem statement, and we use a problem-solving approach and then [we] use computers to solve it.

Now for any problem that comes to me, I do not directly jump to any solutions. I sketch [and] imagine a lot before creating anything.

What’s your favourite Code Club project and why?

I love the Scratch project Flappy parrot. It reminds me of simpler times, and all the kids in my area really enjoyed it when I made it.

Tell us a Code Club memory (big or small) that you’re proud of?

When my project [Covid Helpline website] was selected for Coolest Projects, it definitely has to be that.

My life kind of took a turn after that. I was called to the Red FM 93.5 office [a local Indian radio channel] for an interview! I cherish that memory a lot. It was my first time ever representing myself on such a big platform.

Since the radio office was in Srinagar and I live in Sopore, it was also not easy to convince my parents to let me go for an interview, but as luck would have it, I convinced them!

How has coding and learning about computers benefited your life?

Learning about computers and computer programming has helped me to think creatively.

When my project [Covid Helpline website] was selected in Coolest Projects, I got a lot of opportunities to share my experiences on various platforms, which boosted my confidence.

Girls in younger grades in my school now look up to me and they also want to join Pi Jam classes!

Can you share why you decide to take part in Coolest Projects?

I created a lot of projects with my friends and I was excited to know that I would get a chance to submit my creation with so many [other] students across so many different countries.

What inspired your 2021 Coolest Projects idea?

There were lots of people around my community suffering, facing the problem of not finding [COVID-19] accurate information, details about the right hospital, and the availability of different services. I wanted to help them, and decided to create a website.

How did you feel seeing your project featured in the Coolest Projects online showcase?

I was so happy as I was one of many students from India who got a chance to share their experience online with so many people from across the world!

What are you looking forward to most about Coolest Projects Global 2022?

I have already started preparing for Coolest Projects Global 2022, as I started around this time last year as well. I am focussing on my problem statement and I am excited to see how my project shapes up.

If someone was thinking about taking part in Coolest Projects Global, what would you say to them?

It’s a wonderful opportunity, do not miss the chance!

Our last question! Looking to the future, how do you see computing featuring in your life?

Inspiring more girls in my community to learn [about] computer science!

1. Boat race

This brilliant racing game is super popular with young coders who love developing their coding skills to create their own variations of the game.

“It’s simple enough for even the younger students to follow but has so much scope for extra features. It’s also a great basis for creating other top-down racing games.”

2. Space talk

The first project in the project path ‘Introduction to Scratch: sprites, scripts, and loops’ provides a great introduction to block-based programming.

“It’s such an easy way to understand how coding logic and conditions work. Whether you’re a young coder or a volunteer with no coding experience, this is a really fun and accessible project.”

3. Chatbot

We have loved seeing so many remixes of the Chatbot project over the years. It introduces learners to use code to join text in Scratch.

4. Ghostbusters

Ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and sometimes an Easter egg! This brilliant Scratch project really gets coders to be imaginative as they create a game where they can add a variable to store a score.

5. Catch the bus

Building on the skills from ‘Space talk’, this project helps learners to create a fun animation. They learn how to use the repeat loop, move sprites, and switch costumes.

6. I made you a book

In this project, learners use a project brief to create their own book. They can tell a story or share facts on a subject that interests them.

“This project has everything, [it] gives the right amount of freedom, flexibility and guidance to young people to create and build on their own ideas — however different or similar they may be!”

7. Grow a dragonfly

This project belongs to our new project path ‘More Scratch: broadcast, decisions, and variables’. Learners make a nature app where a dragonfly grows bigger as it eats insects. They can also explore the sound editor to add and change sounds in the app — headphones are optional!

“Not only did my code clubbers find out some amazing facts about dragonflies that blew their minds, but when they saw the fab edits they could make to Scratch library sounds they got so creative — since then every session has had an extra level of noise….and I love it!”

8. Lost in space

An oldie but a favourite amongst our beginner coders (young and old). This Scratch project guarantees to bring a smile to your face and ignite your curiosity to learn more about coding.

9. Create your own world

Go on an adventure with your Code Club members and build an adventure world with multiple levels to explore.
