Code Red! Join us as we #GetHackneyCoding

Are you a teacher or a techie in Hackney? Help us #GetHackneyCoding this month! Code Club Pro are offering free teacher training sessions for primary school teachers in Hackney, supported by Samsung and Hackney Learning Trust. If you’re a techie keen to lend your skills you can join the coding movement by running an after-school Code Club in your area just one hour a week.

Factory Youth Zone Regional Hub!

Last Thursday we launched our Regional Hub at The Factory Youth Zone in Manchester.
We are working with our partner Samsung to open five Hubs across the UK, which we hope will drive us further to meeting our aim of reaching 5,000 clubs and 70,000 children by the end of 2015.
Manchester’s The Factory Youth Zone in Harpurhey has been chosen to be the second Hub in the UK following the first Hub’s opening in London at the Dragon Hall community centre in Camden earlier this year. It will be equipped with laptops to run weekly coding sessions with young people and also host four training sessions a year to train Code Club volunteers.

The Factory Youth Zone Code Club will start on Monday 10th November, and will give 15 young people from the local area at a time the opportunity to learn how to create games, animations and websites. Upcoming volunteer training events at the Regional Hub will be announced soon.

Croydon Future Tech City Event

On Saturday 30th November, Croydon Tech City held its first Future Tech City event, in a drive to get a Code Club into every primary school in Croydon.

There are 95 primary schools in Croydon and Future Tech City are determined to put a Code Club in every single one. With an enthusiastic and dedicated team, they are already doing fantastic work in raising aware of not only Code Club but the importance of teaching children how to code.

Schools from around the borough were invited to attend, and there was a Code Club running in the IT suite led by Paul Sinnett, Marc Grossman and Saleha Salahudin who run Croydon’s very sucessful library-based Code Club. At the end of the event the children were brought into the conference theatre and the games they had create shown off.

Code Club looks forward to working closely with Croydon Tech City in the future!
